Studio Gang has published a new design image of the high-rise Solar Carve Tower, the construction of which will soon begin in New York
Studio Gang has published a new image of the office high-rise Solar Carve Tower, the construction of which will soon begin on 10th Avenue in New York. The building will be located in Manhattan between the Hudson River and High Line Park (High Line), which is located on the site of the former elevated railway. Conceived by the architects in 2012, the tower was presented four times to the New York Commission on Standardization and Appeals in the Field of Construction and Land Use (BSA), and only in November 2015 was the project approved for design and implementation.
For the first time, the published sketches provide an opportunity to evaluate not only future interiors and terraces on the roof of the tower, but also its combination with the park, whose design for Pier 55 at the Hudson Embankment was developed by Heatherwick Studio.
The Solar Carve tower is designed to minimize the invasion of Hile Line on Wednesday: thanks to the carving of the building, the previous amount of sunshine will fall into the sprawling park on the overpass.
“In a project like Solar Carve Tower at the High Line, we are developing an idea of the paramount importance of public space, even when this space is among buildings and is not protected by zoning typical for such cases,” explained Studio Gang founder Jin Gang.

“We noticed that the new buildings surrounding our site are beginning to prevent the High Line from insolating, and if we follow the traditional requirements of zoning, we will also make a similar“ contribution ”to the destruction of public space. Therefore, we “sculpted” this building, using the angles of incidence of sunlight ... We treated High Line as a public territory, which can be preserved if we do not block the sunlight. ”
The total area of the project is almost 13 thousand square meters. m, including 930 square meters. m of terraces on the roof and 743 square meters. m open space flush with the High Line.According to the New York Post, on all office floors except the seventh private terraces will be located. The building was designed in accordance with the requirements of the silver level LEED certification standard.
The opening of the Solar Carve Tower is scheduled for early 2019.
