How to primed walls?

Everyone saw that before the wallpaper was pastedprofessional builders apply a primer to the wall. But that's why not every wall is known for walls. But the primer is a protective film that helps to improve the adhesion of the surface of the wall of another layer of material, prevents the appearance of rot and mold on wooden elements and plasterboard, prevents corrosion of the metal and improves the surface properties of the material.

Determine the type of primer

Before priming the wall, you should determine thetype of primer. When choosing it, you need to take into account the material of the wall surface and the humidity of the room. For example, an emulsion or acrylic primer is used for priming almost any surface, except that only metal elements are excluded. Typically, this primer dries - about 4 hours. If you want to primetovat untreated wood, it is best to use an alkyd primer. However, it will dry completely after 15 hours, after which you can start any finishing work. For metal surfaces, it is better to use perchlorovinyl or glyptal primers. Many do not know what to prime the walls before the wallpaper, and the ideal solution would be acrylic primer that will save walls from rot, mold and mildew, and will also prevent the emergence of bubbles, and the backlog of wallpaper, which is important in this is not a simple matter.

Priming the walls

When the type and composition of the primer is selected, the surface of the wall can be prepared.

  • Before priming the walls, they needcarefully cleaned, and unevenness, which had previously been filled with putty, should be sanded. If you need to put on the wall a tile painted with paint, then first of all you need to get rid of the paint. Otherwise, the tiles on the wall will not hold.
  • If there are places on the wall where the material is heldweakly, for example, plastered walls for a long time or old tiles, it is necessary to remove all weak points and projecting irregularities, leaving a strong base. Now you can proceed to leveling the surfaces of walls, or in other words to plastering.
  • Then it should be applied to the plasteredsurface primer layer that will prepare it for the next layer of putty. It should be noted that the primer should be applied evenly, and you can do this in a horizontal or vertical direction with a brush, roller or balloon. However, when working with any primer, it is best to use a roller rather than a brush, since the applied layer is more smooth than the brush, and the speed is several times higher. But the owners, who do not know how to properly primed the walls, in most cases prefer the brush.
  • After applying the primer, wall filler, until you reach a perfectly flat surface. Then again, the wall should be primed. When the primer dries well, you can start applying paint or pasting a wall with wallpaper. For certainty, it is possible to surface a few more times the surface of the walls, the extra layer will never damage. However, it should be remembered that the next layer of primer can only be applied on a completely dry surface.

Now you know if you need to primed the walls and how to do it right, and you will not have problems with the subsequent wallpapering.
