Choosing an acrylic bathroom
Acrylic baths are becoming more and more popular today, displacing traditional cast iron models. The advantages of such baths are many. For example, acrylic conducts heat poorly, therefore, the water in a bath remains hot for a long time. Acrylic baths are easy to clean, it does not need to be scrubbed, just enough to rinse with water.
Sanitary acrylic, if the rules of operation are not violated, for a long time retains an attractive appearance. In addition, acrylic baths produce a variety of colors and shapes.
Therefore? You can always choose a model that is suitable for a miniature bathroom in the “Khrushchev” and for a large luxurious bath in a mansion. The advantage of acrylic baths is that they are light enough, so they are easy to install.
In addition, it is easy to install additional equipment in acrylic baths, for example, a hydromassage system or lighting on the side of the bath.
A significant disadvantage of acrylic baths is considered to be scratch-resistant, therefore they are not recommended to be cleaned with abrasive powders and iron brushes. However, the formed scratches can be eliminated by polishing the bath with special compositions.
Acrylic baths are available in two types. In the first case, two polymeric materials are connected by a co-extrusion method into a monolith, that is, the layer of acrylic in such models is small, it is about 10%. All the rest is ABS polymer material, which has much worse performance characteristics.
These baths are inexpensive (from $ 190), but also serve much less. Cracks, chips and scratches soon appear on them. The average service life of such a bath is 3-4 years.
Higher quality baths are made of 100% polymerized methyl methacrylate (acrylic) by casting. These models are more expensive, but they will last three times longer than cheap analogues. Such baths are more durable, and scratches that occur on them can be removed with polishing pastes.
How to distinguish cast acrylic bath from the combined model? For this you need to look at the side. In cast baths, only two layers are visible - acrylic itself and a reinforcing resin. In the combined models, a layer of ABS polymer is also added.
To give the baths greater strength in the factories used the method of reinforcement. Fiberglass or epoxy resin is used as the “core”.The more layers of reinforcement used in the production, the bath will be better to keep its shape.
You can see the number of layers on the cut of the side of the bath; here they are clearly visible, like annual rings on a saw cut. The walls of a quality acrylic bath should not bend; this condition must be checked before purchase.
Of course, the higher quality sample acrylic baths presented in the store, the higher the price it will have. You can advise buyers to pay attention to the baths produced in Poland. In this case, you can choose a sufficiently high-quality model at a very reasonable price.
Quite often, in the kit for an acrylic bath, manufacturers offer additional equipment, for example, head restraints, handrails, hydromassage systems, various mixers.
Of course, it is up to the buyer to purchase additional accessories or not, but no one can do without a mixer. The beauty of the acrylic bath is that it allows you to install the mixer (and, if necessary, not one) directly on the side of the bath.
Due to its properties, acrylic baths allow you to create a variety of interior design options.
